Kilkenny, Ireland

Kilkenny is quite the medieval gem! I loved this small, beautiful town with rich history and vibrant culture. This charming destination not only amazed me with its medieval architecture but also offered an array of fun activities and picturesque scenery.

First up on the itinerary was Kilkenny Castle, a stunning 12th-century fortress that presides over the city. As we approached the castle, the towering structure and its surrounding gardens simply took my breath away. We spent a couple of hours exploring the castle’s exquisite rooms, which have been meticulously restored to their former glory. The opulence of the interiors gave me a glimpse into the lives of the Butler family, who inhabited the castle for over 800 years.

The Rose Garden outside the castle had colorful blooms and gave such a tranquil escape, it almost makes you forget you are in the middle of a bustling city.

Kilkenny’s streets are a delight to explore. We lost track of time wandering down the medieval mile, a stretch filled with charming storefronts, traditional pubs, and quaint cafes. We came upon St. Canice's Cathedral, where my husband climbed the ancient round tower for a panoramic view of the city. The Black Abbey established in 1225 was filled with history, it holds some amazing artifacts and has stunning stained glass windows.

If you’re considering a trip to Ireland, Kilkenny should undoubtedly be on your list. There’s something here for everyone — whether you’re a history buff, an art enthusiast, or just someone looking to enjoy good food and warm company.

Until next time, my fellow travelers! Safe journeys, and may your next adventure be as unforgettable as mine in Kilkenny.
